Welcome to the Town of Milestone’s waste management information page. Here you will find details about our landfill hours, tipping fees, garbage and recycling pick-up policies, and donation bins.

Landfill Hours of Operation

(Weather permitting and excluding statutory holidays)

  • Wednesdays: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
  • Saturdays: 8:00 am to 10:00 am

An attendant will be on-site during operating hours to ensure waste is deposited correctly and to collect appropriate fees. Notices will be provided for any changes due to weather or other circumstances requiring landfill closure.

All other load types will be charged at the discretion of the attendant on duty.

Not Allowed: Shingles, carpet, linoleum, paint cans, tires, batteries, propane tanks, chemical containers, hazardous or toxic waste, explosives, animal carcasses, oil and oil filters, cardboard, paper. Halocarbon items and air conditioners must have the refrigerant removed before dumping.

Discretionary Items: (The town strongly encourages property owners to get a bulk disposal container for significant renovations) Drywall, insulation, concrete, siding, doors, windows, painted wood, electronics, tin cans, and plastics.

Your cooperation in using curbside containers for all household materials is appreciated. If unsure where to dump, please contact the gate attendant.

Note: The gate attendant will record the names and materials of all visitors. Verbal abuse or improper dumping will result in the loss of landfill privileges and possible fines.

Garbage & Recycle Pick-Up & Disposal Policy

Garbage Pick-Up: Garbage pick-up is on the street (weather permitting). If collection cannot occur on a regular day due to weather or other reasons, Loraas will attempt to pick it up as soon as possible. Click here for the 2025 Loraas Collection Calendar.

Domestic Household Garbage (Friday Pick-Up): Every second Friday morning. Garbage must be bagged in the Loraas bin and set out on the street by 7:30 am. If it cannot fit in the bin, it must wait until the following week. Ensure the cart is not blocked and is accessible to the truck.

Curbside Recycling (Friday Pick-Up Only): Every second Friday morning. Recycling must be set out on the street by 7:30 am. If it cannot fit in the bin, it must wait until the following week. Ensure the cart is not blocked and is accessible to the truck.

Allowable Materials

  • Paper & Cardboard: Flattened corrugated cardboard, paperboard, newspapers, flyers, magazines, catalogues, telephone books, brown paper bags, tissue roll cores, gift and packing paper, and copier paper.
  • Aluminum & Tin: Soft drink and beer cans, foil trays, pie plates, household tin cans (please rinse).
  • Plastic: Containers with logos 2-7, plastic drink bottles, juice and milk cartons, milk jugs, tetra-pack containers, and pouches.
  • Glass: Clean glass bottles and jars.

Non-Allowable Materials:

  • #1 Plastic is no longer accepted.
  • Household garbage, organics, hazardous waste, waxed/plasticized/food-contaminated paper, soiled tissues, napkins, paper towels, confetti shredded paper, Styrofoam, auto parts, and batteries.

Community Donation Bins

Community Living Donation Bin: Located between Hoff Insurance and Teeger Plumbing and Heating on Main Street. If the bin is full, do not leave bags outside. The bin is emptied every second Wednesday. For a full list of acceptable items, visit http://www.theyellowbin.com/items-we-accept/

Diabetes Donation Bin: Located in the parking lot of Mary’s Place. For a list of acceptable items, visit https://declutter.diabetes.ca/what-you-can-leave-in-a-donation-bin. To donate other items, please schedule a pick-up.
